                      J.P. Thebault Silk Fly Lines
The Thebault silk fly lines are translucent, pale gold with a slight mottling indicative of some hand work.

Mr. Thebault's operation has 18 braiding machines creating Thebault silk fly lines in many different tapers: short Double Taper, full Double Taper, Spey Double Taper, Weight Forward, and Salmon Weight Forward.

The tips of the J.P. Thebault, in light line weights, are .024", certainly a lot more delicate than PVC lines which would gauge at .035" or greater.

The Thebault does require some breaking in to remove the initial stiffness. Fortunately, the Thebault line comes with several ounces of a proprietary dressing in a tin container (several seasons worth).

Care of J.P. Thebault Silk Fly Lines
Preparation for use of J.P.Thebault’s Silk Fly Lines. This procedure is necessary to make the fly line finish flexible.

IF THIS PROCEDURE IS NOT FOLLOWED THE LINE FINISH MAY CRACK AND THE LIFE OF THE FLY LINE WILL BE SHORTENED!

As the line is unwound from the coil in its box, work the fly line dressing provided (don’t use any other kind of dressing) into the line with your fingers. This will be absorbed and the line will become more flexible. This process must be done at least three times over a period of three to six days. During the first 20 to 30 hours of fishing the dressing must be reapplied often. The line must be dried before applying the dressing. This application may be required for every hour fished. After the break in period the dressing should be applied as needed for every 3 to 4 hours of fishing.
The line should be removed from its reel and dried after fishing.

Single Taper

We have no Single Taper lines at this time, but we sell J.P. Thebault's "Short Double Taper" which is the same as the regular double taper with the belly section reduced by 12meters. The line is 15 meters (49.2') in overall length, more than adequate for most bamboo fly rods fishing small-medium stream conditions. Like the longer Double Taper lines, these lines allow you to switch ends for longer wear. Currently available in weights 3 - 6. A low-cost introduction to the beauty of silk lines.

"Red Tin" Mucilin has been the choice of most silk line fishermen since its introduction to the market. Sure, you can sit around the camp at night and argue the relative merits of bear grease applied with hummingbird flank feathers; but before you wet a line, treat it with Mucilin. Cost $4.50 per container with felt pad, or a case of 10 for $40.00.
